Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen on Sunday said that China is sending 500 sets of ‘most advanced kits’ to Bangladesh to identify coronavirus as a gesture of goodwill and strong faith that Bangladesh will win the battle against coronavirus.
He said this at his ministry after a meeting with Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Li Jiming.
“China never forgets to lend a helping hand to Bangladesh, even at its most difficult times when the coronavirus outbreak hits the country,” Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Li Jiming said this in the meeting.
As per the Chinese Ambassador, the embassy has ordered 500 test kits from Beijing Genomics Institute to help enhance Bangladesh’s capacity to detect coronavirus.
“These are real-time fluorescent RT-PCR kits for detecting the 2019 Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) and are the first such donation to any country by China,” Deputy Chief of Mission Yan Hualong said journalists after the meeting.
If any case is confirmed in Bangladesh, Beijing will send more equipment here as per the necessity.
Foreign Minister Dr Momen said China has been very helpful to Bangladesh throughout the process. He recalled the Chinese government’s support in bringing back 312 Bangladeshis from Wuhan city, from where the coronavirus outbreak spread.
He said, “We are in touch with China. Our Prime Minister Sheiklh Hasina has sent a message to Chinese President Xi Jinping soon after the country’s cornonavirus outbreak.
The Chinese ambassador expressed their heartfelt gratitude to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the Bangladesh government and the people of Bangladesh, for their generosity and support towards the Chinese people during this time of hardship.
Ambassador Li Jiming said coronavirus knows no boundary, nationality or race and with each action of kindness and mutual help, the people of China and Bangladesh will be further rallied in confrontation of the epidemic.
“All of these speak volumes of China-Bangladesh partnership of strategic cooperation,” the envoy said.
