A.T.M.Nurun Nabi :
Hazrat Muhammad (SM), son of Abdullah, son of Abdul Muttalib, is the Prophet of Allah unto mankind. Allah revealed His guidance for mankind in the form of the Holy Quran some 1400 years ago. Holy Spirit Jibrail (Gabriel) carried the Message of Allah to the Prophet for preaching among the people.
The Prophet was simultaneously an administrator, economist, reformer and statesman. As a man, he was noble, patience bearing and very kind, in particular to children, and stressed on taking care of them so that they are not misguided. There are many events in the life of Hazrat Muhammad (SM) about children. Some of them are the followings.
Hazrat Salman-ibn-Amer quoting the Prophet (RA) said, “Child’s Aqika (ceremony of naming a new born child) is a must. So, on behalf of them, flow the blood (of cattle) and relieve them from the burden of head hair (by shaving), which they brought forth from mothers’ wombs.
Hazrat Samura-ibn-Zundub (RA) narrated: The Prophet said, “Every child has right to Aqika. On the 7th day of his (or her) birth, slaughter a cattle on his (or her) behalf, shave his (or her) head hair and give a good name.
Hazrat Ayesha (RA) said: One day (my father) Abu Bakr (RA) came to the house of the Prophet (SM). At that time, two minor girls were playing with Dop (country made musical instrument) while the Prophet was lying in the bed with face covered with wrapper. Abu Bakr scolded the girls. At this, the Prophet uncovered his face and said: O Abu Bakr! Obstruct them not. It is their festival day.
On another occasion, Hazrat Omar (RA) rebuked a group of Bedouin children, who were playing in the mosque. Hearing it, the Prophet said: O Omar! Rebuke not, and then turning his face to the children, he said: O children of Arfida! Continue your sports.
Hazrat Anas (RA) one day greeted a group of minor boys while passing by them and said, “The Prophet did it. So, I do.”
On one occasion, Hazrat Muhammad (SM) kissed child Hasan (RA). Close to him was sitting Akra-ibn-Habish Tamim (RA), who said: O the Prophet of Allah! I have 10 children but I never kissed any one of them. Hearing it, the Prophet stared in his face for sometimes and said, “Whoso shows not mercy (towards children), Allah will not be kind to him.”
Hazrat Ayesha (RA) said: One day a man said to the Prophet, “You kiss children, but we do not. In reaction, The Prophet said, “If Allah makes your hearts merciless, what can I do?”
Sahul-ibn- Saad (RA) said, “One day, the Prophet of Allah, pointing to the distance between his right and the middle fingers, said: Caretakers of orphan (children) and I shall dwell in the Paradise like this.
Hazrat Uthama (RA) said, “Hugging me and Hazrat Hasan (RA) together in his arms, The Prophet said: O Allah! I take pity on them. So, do ye for them. On another occasion, he said, “O Allah! I love Hasan. So, you love him.”
Hazrat Abdullah-ibn-Omar (RA) quoted Hazrat Muhammad (SM) to have said, “Hasan and Hussain are to me like two flowers.”
The Prophet Muhammad used to shorten prayers whenever he heard the children crying in order that their mothers would be able to take care of them. During the early period of Islam, males and females offered prayers together in the mosques.
Hazrat Anas narrated it. In fact, the Prophet’s love and feelings for children were enormous and examples for mankind.
About the Prophet Muhammad (SM), Historian Leonardo said, “If anyone in this world has seen God and if any one in this world has done good to mankind, he is Muhammad.
Josephine Hale said, ” Muhammad was such a personality in absence of him the world would have remained incomplete.”
