BSS, Rajshahi :
As the present children will be the key players to take the nation forward in future they must be protected from all sorts of cruelties and inhuman tasks in legal custody.
“For their proper protection there should be a comprehensive children-friendly justice system to protect the rights of the children who have committed crimes,” said Justice Iman Ali, a judge of the Appellate Division of Bangladesh Supreme Court, here yesterday.
He opined that the children must not either be treated or tried as criminal as all of them have future. None has the right and legal authority to destroy their future. As a whole, rights of them must be protected as they deserved it constitutionally.
Justice Amin Ali was addressing a divisional level training workshop titled “Children Law, 2013 and Probation System” held in conference hall of Deputy Commissioner as the chief guest.
Bangladesh Legal Aid and Services Trust (BLAST) organized the workshop in association with Community Legal Services Project with the main thrust of devising ways and means on how to ensure a comprehensive child-friendly justice system in the country.
More than 70 officials comprising judges, public prosecutors, panel lawyers and probation and police officers attended the daylong workshop and took part in its open and group discussions.
They were given a clear-cut idea about the law and how to deal with the prosecuted children.
Justice Iman Ali said children never commit any crimes but they fall prey to any circumstance of the present society.
The judges, police and probation officers, legal practitioners and others concerned should come forward with a positive mentality and should work together for accurate enforcement of the children law. There should be adequate probation measures for children safety.
Justice Ali mentioned that the new law has been enacted following the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) and other international standards. So, its proper enforcement has become an urgent need.
