Inoculation of covid vaccine among the children aged from five to 11 has been started in the country.
The health department on Thursday started the Covid-19 vaccination campaign for those school children.
The long awaited vaccination campaign began with inoculating Pfizer jab doses to 16 school kids at Abul Bashar Government Primary School in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the capital.
Health Minister Zahid Maleque inaugurated the programme at 12:30 pm at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre.
Zahid Maleque said this vaccine is being inoculated among the children in the USA. He said this vaccine is totally safe for kids.
The vaccination campaign with special pediatric Pfizer vaccine will be expanded across the country on August 25.
Education Minister Dipu Moni, was also present at the programme.
Dipu Moni said that the government initiated the kids inoculation programme so that schools might not keep shut in case of further rising of covid spreading.
She said, 98 per cent students aged 12-18 have been inoculated by the first dose while 83 per cent the second dose of Covid jab.
A total of 1.5 million specially prepared Pfizer vaccines have arrived for children aged 5-11 years.
