Child, teenager drown in Gafargaon

A one-and-a-half-year-old child named Maryam Akhter drowned in a bucket of water in Gafargaon upazila of Mymensingh and a teenager named Abdul Ahad (15) drowned while fishing in the river. Their bodies were recovered Friday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Hafeez Mojibur Rahman of Palikanda village under Yashra union of Maryam upazila. And Ahad, who drowned in the river, is the son of Raich Uddin of Yashra village.
According to local sources, Maryam, a child from Palaikanda village, was left in a bucket of water by her mother Jannatul Ferdous at around 9 am and left for other household chores. She came for a while and saw the frozen body of the girl lying inside the bucket. When the baby Maryam was rushed to the Gafargaon Upazila Health Complex, the doctor on duty declared her dead.
On the other hand, Abdul Ahad, a student of local Shibganj Tahmina Adarsh Hafezia Madrasa, son of Raich Uddin of Yashra village, drowned while fishing in Sutia River. The incident took place around 10 am on Friday.
Upon receiving the news, a team of Gafargaon Fire Service tried for two hours and recovered Ahad’s body around 12:30 pm.
Officer-in-charge (OC) of Gafargaon Police Station Anukul Sarkar said police were sent to the spot after receiving the information. Legal action is being taken.
