Women and Children Affairs Minister Meher Afroz Chumki said child marriage is the main obstacle for the implementation of women rights.
Chumki said, the government has taken different steps to free the country from child marriage.
The state minister said this on Thursday while addressing a rally organized by National Girl Child Advocacy Forum on the occasion of International Women’s Day in front of National Museum.
The rally ended at Engineers’ Institute after paraded different streets of the city.
Chumki said ‘Child marriage must be stopped in order to build a healthy nation.’
She said the government has already passed the Child Marriage Restraint Act.
At present, online birth registration has been made mandatory within 45
days of birth, she added.
Forum convenor and Sujan president Dr Badiul Alam Majumder and forum
secretary Nasima Akther Jolly, among others, addressed the rally.
