Arrangement of a child (immature) marriage has been postponed by a mobile court on last Monday at Barangkula village in Buraich union under Alfadanga upazila in the district.
Local sources said, the marriage was settled between Laboni, age 14, daughter of Raton Mollah, Barangkula village and Md. Aminur Rahman, age 20, son of Md. Pannu Mollah of Shukurhata Village under Alfadanga union. Laboni was a student of class eight in Barangkula High School. Before finaliasation of the marriage Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) and Executive Magistrate Mohammad Abul Khaier reached the bride’s house at 5 pm on that day.
He sentenced bridegroom Md. Aminur Rahman and bride’s father Md. Ratan Mollah ( 50) one month non-rigorious jail to both of them.
Marriage Registrar Abdul Wahab Mollah of Shialdi Village also sentenced 15 days jail. Relatives of bridegroom Md. Chunnu Mollah, Shukurhata Village, Abdur Rahman, village Kewagram under Boalmari upazila, Mohammad Ali, village Murail under Boalmari upazila fined one thousand taka each.
The mobile court jailed and fined the accused persons under Child Marriage Protection Act 1929.
