Sajib (9), a student of Class-IV met his tragic end when he was drowned in a canal of village Purbo Khada within Rayenda Union under Sharankhola Upazila in Bagerhat district on Saturday noon.
It is learnt from the locals and the bereaved family that the ill-fated boy came to the village with his mother from Khulna to pay visit to the house of his maternal grand father Sultan Shikdar of the village. At the noon the unfortunate boy went to a nearby canal along with his elder brother and when he was taking bath in the canal he was drowned in it. On information, a fire service unit rushed to the spot and from Sharankhola and its members searched the canal, but no trace of the boy was found. In the afternoon a diving team reached the place of occurrence from Khulna, searched the canal and recovered the dead body from the canal. The boy was the son of one Mawlana Khalilur Rahman of Khulna City Corporation.
