A two-year-old child was drowned in a pond while visiting his grandfather’s house at Ghior in Manikganj. Her body was recovered from a pond in Rathura village of Baniajuri union of the upazila around 10am on Saturday.
The name of the deceased child is Khadija Akter. She is the daughter of Selim Miah of Vakla village in Ulail union of Shibalayaupazila of the district.
The baby’s grandfather Md. Jahangir said, “Khadija came to our house with her mother a week ago. In the morning, unbeknownst to everyone, Khadija went down to the pond next to the house and drowned. At around 10 in the morning, the child floated in the water of the pond. She was picked up from the water and taken to the local Munnu Medical College Hospital where doctors declared her dead.”
