A six-year-old child was burnt alive as fire broke out at a slum in Agargaon area in the city on Wednesday.
Fire Service and Civil Defence officials said at least 100 shanties of the slum were gutted in the fire that originated at Agargaon slum near Islamic Foundation building around 11:25am.
Sher-e-Bangla thana Officer-in-Charge GG Biswas said body of the
child, Shajib, was recovered immediately after a fire swept through the slum.
Fire service control room in-charge officer Enayet Hossain said 12 units of Mirpur, Tejgaon, and Mohammad fire service are working to douse the fire.
Twelve firefighting units from different fire stations have rushed to the spot and doused the flame after 50 minutes of frantic efforts, said sources at FSCD headquarters. Reason behind the fire could not be known immediately.
