Chicken prices jump on high demand

The price of broiler chicken has increased Tk 15 within an week. Consequently, the price of broiler chicken has increased by Tk 45 in last four weeks. As a result, broiler chicken price has scored double century.
Along with broiler, the price of Pakistani cock (also known as Sonali Chicken) has increased. However, the price of winter vegetables has remained stable. Unfortunately, at the full season of winter vegetables, there is no sign of fall.
After visiting few kitchen markets in the capital Dhaka, it was observed that chicken traders were selling broiler chicken at Tk 195 to Tk 200 whereas one week before it was Tk 180-185 and four weeks ago Tk 150-155.
On the other hand, Pakistani Cock’s price also increased and is being sold at Tk 300-340 which was Tk 290-300 in last week and Tk 250-270 three weeks ago.
Karwan Bazar chicken trader Jashim Uddin said the supply of broiler chickens in the market had been low for several weeks. Due to this, the price is increasing from time to time. Seeing the trend of rising prices, we assumed few weeks ago that the price would reach Tk 200 per kg.
Rampura’s businessman Md Milon said, we would not be surprised at the price of broiler chicken currently increasing to Tk 250. Yesterday I sold at Tk 180 per broiler chicken, but in 24 hours, the price of broiler chicken went up to Tk 200 per kg.
Md Al Amin, a customer from Rampura market said, I saw broiler chicken being sold at Tk 180 per kg in the market
last evening. I came to the market today (Friday) and saw Tk 200 of the item. If the price goes up like this, the meat will be hard for the low-income people like us. The piece of eggs remained stable and is being sold at Tk 100 per dozens.
Though the price of winter vegetables remained stable but it was not expected. In the market old bean was being sold at Tk 30-40, while fresh at Tk 50-60. Carrot is being sold by decreased price of Tk 40 to 50 per kilo The French is being sold at Tk 50-70, Cauliflower at Tk 30-40 and Cabbage at Tk 30-40. potato Tk 30 t0 35, brinjal Tk 40 to 60, cauli flower Tk 30 to 50 accrding to size.
New onions are available in the market. Local onion is being sold at Tk 40 per kg, down by Tk 10 the retail market. Potatoes are being sold at Tk 20 to 25 per kg.
In the fish market, Rohit and Carp are being sold at Tk 250-350, Walking fish at Tk 500-600, Telapia and Pangas at Tk 150-170.
Besides, a Hilsha weighing one and a half kilogram is being sold at Tk 1,000-1200 per kg while smaller size at Tk 500-600 only, while shrimp at Tk 600-650 only.
