Bangladesh Chhatra Odhikar Parishad staged demonstration protesting the incidents of enforced disappearances in the country by drawing attention to the recent report of online news portal “Netra news” titled Aynaghor.
They also demanded for the release of the victims to return to their families and carrying out an independent investigation after forming a committee under the supervision of United Nations.
They said such incidents of extra-judicial killings and enforced disappearances are directly endangering the basic human rights.
They organised the protest programme in front of Raju Memorial Scripture on Thursday while seeking attentions to all humanitarian groups and organisations.
“The unlawful nature of abduction and oppression are nothing new. Chhatra Odhika Parishad itself has been one of the most pronounced victims of brutalism by specific group of government personnel in the name of law enforcement since quota reform movement,” they said.
Memorising the disappearance time, Shakiluzzaman, a student of Jahangirnagar University, said, “I was a victim of disappearance from the campus by the white uniform police.”
“First, I was blindfolded and taken to different places in the car. I was tortured throughout the night miserably. Then I was taken to court after three days of disappearance. I did not know where I was for those three days,” he added.
“I was shown arrested after being kept missing for three days. Disappearances has been created to suppress opposition voice,” Tarique Islam, one of the victim of disappearance said.
“The correct government will be change, but it is unfortunate that BNP does not recognize their leader. Khaleda Zia will be the leader of BNP, not Tarique Rahman. Let Khaleda Zia get bail today, the tide of change will flow in three to four months,” he added.
“To save the country, corruption must be stopped. If good governance is established today, the price of medicines will be reduced by half,” Zafrullah said.
