Adviser and Chairman of Youth and Sports Sub-Committee of Bangladesh Awami League Mozaffar Hossain Paltu on Thursday said chess should be spread everywhere to bring back the youth from astray.
“Our youth is being misguided in different ways and in that case chess can play a vital role in our society to protect them……chess should be spread to bring them back in right patch,” Paltu said in a grand reception ceremony in the city’s local hotel.
The reception ceremony was hosted by Saif Sporting Club to accord their players, who finished runners-up in the recently concluded Asian Chess Club Champions League in Sri Lanka.
Paltu said it’s really a matter of proud that the players of Saif Sporting Club archived the honor for the country and only a player can bring such honor for the country by representing him internationally.
He hoped that the club would able to bring more international laurels for the country in the near future.
Tarafdar M Ruhul Amin, chairman of Saif Sporting Club and vice president of Bangladesh Chess Federation (BCF) said they are trying heart and soul to take the country’s chess in a new height not only in Bangladesh but also in Asia. He said they have decided to organize international Grand Master tournament in the country and they would also sponsor if any Grand Master tournament is organized.
Amin said they are trying to develop chess and they are also involved in football which is doing well.
GM Mollah Abdullah Al Rakib who represented Bangladesh in the championship for Saif Sporting Club said it was his new experience as he never participated such kind of championship.
“I really feel proud for playing Saif Sporting Club …… I think such kind of achievement will inspire the other clubs to bring honor from the foreign soil,”.
In the reception ceremony, each member of the Saif Sporting Club, participated in Asian Chess Championship, were handed over cash prize of Taka 50,000.
Renowned sports organizer and Youth and ports Affairs Secretary of Bangladesh Awami League Harunur Rashid, SAIF Sporting Club managing director Engr. M Nasiruddin Chowdhury, BCF general secretary Syed Shahab Uddin Shamim, SAIF Sporting Club general secretary Mahbubur Rahman,were among others, present on the occasion.
