Fernando Torres will start in the Chelsea striker’s first return to boyhood club Atletico Madrid on Tuesday in the first leg of their Champions League semifinal.
With Samuel Eto’o unavailable due to injury, the Spain international got the nod from Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho in the opener at the Vicente Calderon Stadium.
Torres, who has scored nine goals in all competitions, spent the first six years of his career at Atletico, captaining the team before leaving for Liverpool in 2007.
Chelsea striker Demba Ba was left on the bench, as was forward Andre Schurrle.
For Atletico, striker Diego Costa leads the attack while goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois – on-loan from Chelsea – starts. Midfielders Arda Turan and Tiago Mendes were left on the bench.
