Checking early marriage to protect children from diseases emphasized

Speakers at a function stressed the need for checking early marriage anyhow to protect the children from malnutrition and various types of diseases and its complexities.
They made the comments while addressing at a discussion meeting on “Checking Early and Child Marriage” organized recently by Gaibandha Primary Teachers’ Training Institute at its hall room, Gaibandha.
Additional deputy commissioner (ADC)-General M. Shamsul Azam addressed the meeting as the chief guest and Sadar UNO Aliya Ferdous Jahan and district women affairs officer Habiba Khatun were present as special guests.
With superintendent of the institute Samsea Akhter in the chair, the function was also addressed, among others, by assistant super Robindranath Pramanik, resource person Mohsin Ali, instructor Milon Sarker, trainee Abu Akkas, and journalist Sarker M. Shahiduzzaman.
The speakers said social awareness and motivation is very important for substantial and sustainable prevention of early and child marriage and child pregnancy.
Responsive support from the community, especially teachers, parents and influential leaders, is must to ensure adolescent-friendly environment through eliminating gender disparity and sexual harassment, they also said.
ADC M. Shamsul Azam underscored the need for resistance against child marriage and teenage pregnancies to reduce the women violence and make the family planning activities a grand success.
