Citizens for Good Governance (Sujan) requested the Election Commission and other authorities concerned to take adequate measures so that the untoward incidents that occurred during Khulna City Corporation election would not be repeated in Gazipur City Corporation election.
After a round table meeting on the subject titled ‘Proposed Budget 2018-19’ Sujan Secretary Dr. Badiul Alam Majumdar urged this while responding to the question from the journalists at National Press Club in Dhaka on Monday.
He said that an example of a defective election was established through Khulna city corporation election as the Election Commission (EC) failed to handle the elections fairly.
Badiul Alam said Election Commission (EC) gained trust by holding Rangpur City Corporation election, but lost it at Khulna.
In Gazipur, several opposition activists were arrested, and a candidate was seen travelling in a police car, which were definitely ominous.
He expected from the Election Commission (EC) that it would properly carry out its responsibility. Gazipur City Corporation election would be fair, neutral and credible, he hoped.
