About 201 cheats have got appointment as teachers in different MPO-enlisted non-government educational institutions, including schools, colleges and madrasahs, by submitting fake certificates, as per a report of this daily on Saturday. It was revealed when the Directorate of Inspection and Audit (DIA) identified about 201 forgery cases where the teachers with fake certificates were serving in the non-government educational institutions.According to the inspection report, recently carried by the DIA, under the Education Ministry in some districts, several teachers have been serving for eight to ten years and drawing salaries and other benefits. About 130 fake certificate holders have been drawing monthly pay orders (salary from the exchequer) while others have been getting remuneration from the fund of respective job stations, the report added. Most significantly, the major number of forged appointments have been made in the rural areas. The DIA officials also apprehended that the number of fake certificate holders would be increased if they could continue the inspection at all educational institutions across the country. In this backdrop, the DIA has sent the list to the Education Ministry and the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) urging to take stern action, official sources said. The Director of DIA, said, “We have sent the list of the teachers who submitted fake certificates and continuing in jobs to the Education Ministry. We have also asked the Ministry to dismiss their jobs and take stern actions against the unscrupulous teachers.” It is a matter of deep concern that the teachers have got job showing fake certificates. The number of the fake certificate holders is increasing day by day. We identified more than two hundred teachers,” he said, as per the report.Cheating by fake certificates — either that of being freedom fighters or of being educated, is fast becoming a cottage industry in Bangladesh. So do not blame the teachers, blame those who appoint them. We are sure that politics of cheating helped them to be appointed as teachers. Where election is permissible cheating the nation, it cannot be seen as something gravely wrong. Our education system cannot remain immune from cheating practice.It is immensely disturbing to see that we have teachers, not to be teachers, are becoming teachers and the students are not learning the right thing to be properly educated or respecting the virtue of honesty. It is a disaster for our hopes for an honourable future.
