An auto-rickshaw driver reportedly committed suicide hanging him from a tree on the bank of a pond after killing his two children at Tulatuli village in Raipura upazila of Narsingdi district on Thursday night.
The incident took place in the wake of a court ruling over a money related case on Thursday that was not in favour of the man.
Locals found his body hanging from a tree and the bodies of his two children–a boy and a daughter floating in a pond on Friday morning.
The deceased were identified as Kazal Mollah, 32, his daughter Kakali Akhter, 8, and son Soan Mollah alias Sohel, 5, said Delowar Hossain, Officer-in-Charge of Raipura Police Station.
He might have committed suicide by hanging himself after drowning his son and daughter in a pond at night, the police official said.
Kazal was cheated by a broker when he gave him Tk 150,000 two years ago, hoping to go abroad as a migrant worker, but his endeavour failed, the OC said quoting family members.
Kazol’s wife was depressed and did not speak properly to the police. “We are trying to gather detailed information by speaking to other relatives,” he said.
He said that the bodies were sent to Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy. Kazol was a sole breadwinner for the family. He has lodged a complaint with a local court against the broker, according to Kazol’s relatives.
On Thursday, Kazol lost the case as the court ruling was not in his favour. After the verdict, Kazol left his house along with the two children saying they were going on a brief outing, according to his 27-year old wife Sadia Akhter. Kajol and the two children did not return home.
A neighbour said that she had an altercation with her husband over some money on Thursday night. Later, Kazal alongwith his two children went out of the house at about 10:30pm.
