Eminent film director and producer Chashi Nazrul Islam passed away at LabAid Specialised Hospital in the city on Sunday morning. He was suffering from cancer and other complications. He was 74.
Chashi breathed his last at 5:51am. He left behind his wife, two daughters, a host of relatives and well-wishers to mourn his death.
Wife of late film director, Jyotsna Kazi told this correspondent, “The Ekushey Padak winning filmmaker was admitted to the hospital for second time on December 18, a day after he was discharged from the hospital. Earlier, Chashi Nazrul was admitted to the hospital on December 7 with respiratory problems.
The body was taken to his Jasimuddin Road residence in the city’s Kamalapur area in the morning and then to the LabAid Hospital mortuary in the afternoon. His first Namaz-e-janaza is scheduled to be held at Baitul Mukarram National Mosque on Monday afternoon. The body will then be taken to the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) premises so that his colleagues, actors and actresses can pay tributes.
His body will be taken to Jatiya Press Club today and then to Shomoshpur village in Sreenagar upazila of Munshiganj district where he will be buried beside his mother’s grave. Chashi Nazrul, son of Mosleh Uddin Khan and Shayesta Khanom, was born at Shomoshpur in Munshiganj on October 23, 1941. He was the eldest among four brothers and three sisters.
