State Minister for Home Affairs Asaduzzaman Khan yesterday said the chargesheets relating to Rana Plaza collapsed will be pressed soon.
“Chargesheets relating to Rana Plaza collapse will be pressed soon,” he said while addressing a press briefing at his ministry conference room. Marking first anniversary of the tragic building collapse at Savar yesterday, the state minister said the Rana Plaza disaster killed 1,127 and 2,458 workers had been rescued alive.
During the press briefing senior secretary of home ministry CQK Mustaq Ahmad, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Hasan Mahmud Khandker, Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industries president Kazi Akram Uddin Ahmad, additional secretary Dr Kamal Uddin Ahmad, director general of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) Moklesur Rahman, deputy commissioner of Dhaka Sheikh Yusuf Harun and officials of home ministry were present. He said Rana Plaza collapse is the worst tragedy in history of the country.
Asaduzzaman said, immediate after the incident, the government instructed authorities concerned to join the rescue operation for saving lives. Fire Service and Civil Defence, Bangladesh Army, Police, RAB, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), other discipline units, public and private organizations, volunteer organizations and common people joined the rescue operation, he added.
The state minister said, law enforcers arrested 21 people including Sohel Rana, involved in the Rana Plaza tragedy. Later, the IGP said police submitted two chargesheets out of four cases.
