The Detective Branch(DB) of Police on Sunday submitted chargesheet in the sensational murder case of Khairul Alam Mollah, general secretary of Sayedabad Bus Terminal Owners Association, to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court.
Investigating officer and detective police inspector Rafiqul Islam submitted the chargesheet identifying Sayedabad Bus Terminal Owners Association President Abul Kalam as the main accused in the case.
The rivalry between Kalam and Khairul developed over establishment of supremacy over toll
collection at the Bus terminal, police said.
Abul Kalam with his followers also threatened Khairul of eliminating him before the murder, the police said.
Khairul was killed on November 7 evening in city’s Motijheel area. A total of 16 people were made accused in the chargesheet of whom seven have been arrested so far, the police said. Those arrested in this case are Abul Kalam (60), Alamgir Hossain (37), Naimur Rahman Durjoy (26), Salahuddin (37), ABM Aulad Hossain (41) and Md Ali Akbar Babul (48).
The remaining other accused are Tayeb Ali (35), Md Bacchu Mia (38), Gias Uddin Jafar (40), Sumon Reza (33), Md Salin Sarwar (35), Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan (50), Moktar Hossain Nipa (41), Saiduzzaman Shanta (38) and Rahmat Ullah Shantu (38) who are absconding, the police said. Rafiqul Islam said five of the accused who were directly involved in the murder of Khairul are Tayeb Ali, Alamgir, Salahuddin, Suman and Aulad. They have also made confessional statements to the court under section 164, he said.
Khairul Alam Mollah was stabbed to death in the second floor of Samabaya Bank Bhaban, Motijheel , where he had gone to meet with the chairman of the bank. Khairul was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) , where doctors declared him dead.
Sefali Alam , wife of Khairul Alam filed a case with Motijheel Police Station on November 9 in this connection. The case was transferred to Dhaka Metropolitan Police DB the next day.
