The Detective Branch (DB) of Police is set to submit chargesheet accusing six persons, including owners of Jabale-e-Noor Paribahan, in the case filed over the death of two college students on the Airport Road, which had triggered nationwide protests.
“The charge-sheet in the case will be submitted against six persons – two owners, two drivers and two helpers – of the two buses of the company before the court within this week.
On July 30, a Dhaka court fixed the date of submission of chargesheet in the case on September 5. Dia’s father Jahangir Hossain Fakir filed a case with Cantonment Police Station over the death of two students.
“We have already completed investigation into the case regarding the death in a road accident following a race by two buses of Jabale-e-Noor on Airport Road in the capital on July 29,” Abdul Baten, Joint Commissioner (DB north) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, told reporters at a press briefing at the DMP Media Center on Minto Road on Monday afternoon.
“Of the six persons, two drivers, one helper and one owner are now in jail while two others, one owner and one helper are on the run,” he said, adding that frantic efforts are on to capture them.
Owners of the buses were included in the chargesheet as they did not properly scrutinise the bus drivers’ driving licenses during their appointments, he added.
Driver of the killer bus of Jabale-e-Noor Paribahan Masum Billah, his helper Enayet Hossain, owner Shahadat Hossain, driver of another bus Zobair Sumon, his helper Kazi Asad and owner of the bus Jahangil Alam had been enlisted in the chargesheeted of the case.
Of the arrestees, two persons – Shahadat Hossain and bus driver Masum Billah-made confessional statements under Section 164 before the court.
The charge-sheet will be submitted under sections 304, 279 and 34 of the Penal Code, the DB official said. Section 304 refers to life term imprisonment while Section 279 for reckless driving and Section 34 for common intention, he informed.
