Though six years have already passed of the city’s Gopibagh six murders, the police are yet to submit a charge sheet report in this regard.
The investigation agency has arrested two people in this connection. One of them gave a confessional statement in court. According to his confession, four members of the banned militant outfit Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) are yet to be nabbed.
While asked about the progress of the case investigation, Saiful Islam, Deputy Commissioner of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) Department, said that eight more members of JMB might
have connection with the Gopibagh six murders.
Two convicts-Tariqul Islam and Abdul Ghaffar-were arrested over the murders of so called Pir Khizir Khan and five others. Among them, Tariqul gave a confessional statement Under Section 164 to the court.
Two top militants convicted in the Holey Artisan attack have been shown arrested in the Gopibagh six-murder case.
The two militants-Hadisur Rahman Sagar and Mamunur Rashid Ripan-are active members of JMB, the DC added.
It is to be noted that the six people, including Lutfar Rahman, who claimed himself as the ‘top soldier’ of Imam Mahdi and his son Monir Hossain residing at house No. 64/6 at Gopibagh were slaughtered on December 21, 2013. The four other were Lutfar’s followers Manjur Alam, Md Shahin, Md Rasel and Mojibor Sarker.
After the murder, Abdullah Al Faruk, another son of Lutfar, filed a murder case with the Wari Police Station in this connection.
After two years of the murder, on November 25, 2015, Tariqul Islam, a member of the JMB, claimed responsibility for the attack. Tariqul also said that the JMB’s top leaders planned this assassination.
Another Investigation Officer of the case said that the deceased Lutfar claimed himself to be Imam Mahdi’s chief commander. The Pir and his followers used to spread their own religious doctrines neglecting the traditional customs and practices of religion.
On this issue, around eight members of the old JMB’s ‘Killing Squad’ participated in this killing mission.
Earlier, the Wari police carried out the first investigation over the six killings at Gopibagh. Later, Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police was assigned to run probes.
A number four persons, including Syed Ziaul Islam, Ajmir Amit, Golam Sarwar and Al Amin, were detained in connection with the Gopibagh six-murder case and they were interrogated too.
