Court Correspondent :
Charge hearing in the Gatco graft case against BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia and others deferred to March 3 due to the BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s illness.
Judge Syed Dilzar Hossain of the Special Judge Court-3 on Monday fixed the new date after hearing on the time plea of the defence.
Though charge hearing was scheduled to be held on Monday, the jail
authorities did not produce Khaleda Zia in the court because of her illness.
She is currently undergoing treatment at the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) Hospital.
On the day, Khaleda Zia’s lawyers appealed the court to defer the hearing while the court accepted their appeal, later her lawyer Hannan Bhuiyan told the media men.
On September 2, 2007, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed the case against 13 persons, including Khaleda Zia and her late son Arafat Rahman Koko with the Tejgaon Model Police Station on charge of involvement corruption, while signing a contract with Global Agro Trade (Private) Co Limited (GATCO) for container management at Inland Container Depots in Dhaka and Chittagong.
