Charge hearing against former DGHS DG Azad, order on Jun 12

The Special Judge Court-6 of Dhaka yesterday fixed June 12 to pronounce his order as to whether charge will be framed against five accused including former Director General of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Abul Kalam Azad in a graft case.
Monday was earlier fixed for charge hearing against the accused. On the occasion the defense lawyer sought exemption of the accused from the case while Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) lawyer appealed to the court for framing charge against the accused people.
Five other accused in the case are- Regent Chairman Md Shahed alias Shahed Karim, for DGHS Director Aminul Hasan, Deputy Director Yunus Ali, Assistant Director Shafiur Rahman and Research Officer Didearul Islam.
Azad was not initially named in the charge sheet, but his name was added following the investigation of the case.
On September 30, last year, the ACC submitted the charge sheet to the court accusing six people including former Director General Abul Kalam Azad.
On September 23, 2020, Deputy Director of the ACC, Farid Ahmed Patwary lodged the case against five people with Dhaka Coordinated Office-1 for embezzling Tk 1.37 crore by issuing fake Covid test certificate from Regent Hospital.
