Charge framing order in two Razakars’ case Nov 1

The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-1 on Thursday set November 1 for passing order whether to frame charges of crimes against humanity against two alleged Razakars from Habiganj and Kishoreganj.
The two accused are Liakat Ali of Lakhai upazila in Habiganj and Aminul Islam of Astogram upazila in Kishoreganj. Both the accused are still on the run.
Justice Anwarul Haque, chairman of the three-member panel of the ICT-1, set the date for charge framing as both the prosecution and defence concluded their part of hearing on the matter.
Prosecutor Rana Dasgupta pleaded to frame charges against the fugitives, while advocate Gazi MH Tamim defended them before the court.
According to the prosecution, Liakat was a commander of Razakar Bahini in his locality in 1971, while Aminul was the leader of local Al Badr Bahini.
Liakat was a member of Muslim League. After independence, he went into hiding and returned after some time. He then joined Local Awami League and became the president of the party’s Lakhai unit.
Aminul on the other hand, was a member of Islami Chhatra Sangha, then student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami. He was arrested in 1972 and was sentenced to
life imprisonment under Collaborator’s Act. Aminul even wrote a book titled “Ami Al-Badr Bolchi “.
The prosecution has pressed seven charges of crimes against humanity including genocide, murder and looting, against the duo.
