Court Correspondent :
The Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court of Dhaka yesterday (Wednesday) fixed November 2 for hearing on charge framing against BNP Standing Committee member Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain in a money laundering case.
Judge Md Jahurul Haque took cognizance of the case and fixed Dhaka’s Special Judge Court-1 for hearing in the case. On August 14, the Anti-Corruption Commission submitted the charge sheet of the case to the court.
ACC probe found that Mosharraf amassed over Tk 9.53 crore between 2001 and 2006. He siphoned off the amount to the United
Kingdom. However, Mosharraf told the Investigation Officer (IO) that he earned the money while studying in the UK between 1970 and 1975 but he allegedly failed to show any document in defence of his statement.
On March 12 this year, Dr Mosharraf was arrested in the case and the following day he was placed on a three-day remand.
The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court turned down the plea of Dr Mosharraf to scrap the case filed against him on May 21. The High Court had earlier ruled against the BNP leader when he moved similar petitions.
Dr Mosharraf, a former teacher of the Geology Department at Dhaka University has been a BNP Standing Committee member since 1994.
