Court Correspondent :
Charge framing in two defamation cases against BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia was yesterday scheduled to be held on September 5.
The two cases were filed against the BNP Chairperson for celebrating fake birthday on National Mourning Day and stigmatizing the War of Liberation by rehabilitating anti-liberation forces.
Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Muhammad Asaduzzaman Nur of Dhaka fixed the new date on Thursday.
Shahadat Hossain, Bench Assistant of the court concerned, said the hearing on charge framing in the two cases was not held as court proceedings were suspended due to Corona-virus pandemic. The judge of the court yesterday set the new date for hearing as the court proceedings have resumed.
Journalist Gazi Jahirul Islam filed the case against Khaleda Zia on August 30, 2016, and the court on that day issued summon against the BNP leader.
According to the complainant, Khaleda Zia from 1996 has been celebrating her fake birthday on August 15, the day when Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was martyred along with most of his family members. She is purposefully doing this, only to dishonour the Father of the Nation.
The complainant also submitted copies of different newspaper reports on Khaleda Zia’s birthday, copies of her passport, marriage certificate and mark sheets, which indicates her birthday on any other day, but not August 15.
Jananetri Parishad President AB Siddiqui filed the other case on November 3, 2016, against Khaleda Zia and her late husband Ziaur Rahman for stigmatizing the War of Liberation by rehabilitating anti-Liberation War elements.
