Court Correspondent :
The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka once again on Thursday deferred the hearing on framing charge in a case filed against BNP Acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and 40 others.
Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Ali Masud Sheikh fixed the fresh date on March 12 next-year after hearing on the time petitions filed by the defense lawyers. The case was filed in connection with last year’s March 2 violence.
Thirty-nine BNP men, including BNP Acting
Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and the party’s Standing Committee members Goyeshwar Chandra Roy and Barkatullah Bulu, appeared in the court on Thursday while Mirza Abbas and Barrister Moudud Ahmed were absent. However, the court granted their time petitions.
SI Ali Hossain of Ramna Model Police Station filed the case against 41 BNP men and 1,200 unnamed people accusing them of obstructing the law enforcers from discharging their duties, attempting to kill them and exploding crude bombs in front of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College of Bailey Road in the capital on March 2, 2013 during the BNP-led opposition’s blockade programme.
Later, on July 5, SI Dipak Kumar Das submitted the charge sheet of the case to the court against accused BNP men. Earlier, the court fixed October 16 for hearing on charge framing.
