Defamation case in Rangpur: Charge framing against Barrister Mainul Jan 10

A Rangpur Court on Thursday fixed January 10, 2019, for hearing on framing charge against Barrister Mainul Hosein, former Advisor to the Caretaker Government, in a defamation case filed with Rangpur Court.
Arifa Yasmin Mukta, a judge of Chief Judicial Magistrate Court in Rangpur, passed the order after transferring the case to her own file.
After the court order, Public Prosecutor (PP) Abdul Malek said, “The court fixed January 10, 2019, for hearing on framing charge in the case after transferring the case to her own file.”
Sources said, Barrister Mainul Hosein was brought into the court premises amid a strict security. The media persons were also not allowed to enter there.
A woman, Mili Maya Begum, on October 22, 2018, filed the defamation case in the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court of Rangpur against Mainul Hosein on charge of passing ‘malicious comment’ about women on a television talk show.
The court on the same day issued arrest warrant against Barrister Mainul Hosein after taking the charge into cognizance.
Then the following night a team of Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested Barrister Mainul Hosein from Dhaka in the case.
The said court on November 4, 2018, rejected a bail petition filed by Barrister Mainul Hosein in the case and fixed November 22 for further hearing.
He was attacked in the courtyard by some ruling party men as he was being brought into the court on November 4. In response to a writ petition the HC on November 19, 2018, directed the government to ensure adequate security to Barrister Mainul Hosein if he is transferred to other court or any other jail from Rangpur, where he is being held.
