A Dhaka court yesterday framed charges against national team cricketer Nasir Hossain and his wife Tamima Sultana, a cabin crew of Saudi Airlines, in a case filed over their disputed marriage.
Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Tofazzal Hossain of Dhaka issued the order on Wednesday. The court, however, discharged Tamima’s mother Sumi Akter from the charges as allegation against her could not be proved in the case.
The Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate also fixed March 10 to start trial of the case.
The charge hearing took place on January 24 and on the day Senior Advocate Kazi Nazib Ullah Hero conducted hearing seeking discharge on behalf of the three accused: Nasir Hossain, Tamima Sultana and her mother Sumi Akter. Advocate Ishrat Hasan vehemently opposed the discharge plea and sought framing charge against the accused. Later, the court fixed February 9 to pass order about whether charge would be framed in the case.
On September 30, the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) said, the marriage is illegal as Tamima is still wife of businessman Rakib Hasan.
On October 31, last year, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohamamd Jashim granted them bail after they had surrendered in the court and sought bail in the case.
