A Dhaka court yesterday (Tuesday) framed charges against 154 leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islam and Islami Chhatra Shibir, including Jamaat’s Executive Council member Dr Shafikul Islam Masud, Chhatra Shibir’s former president Delwar Hossain and its former
central president Dr Fakhruddin Manik, in a case filed under the Speedy Trial Act on the charges of vandalism.
Magistrate Tarek Moinul Islam Bhuiyan of Dhaka’s Speedy Trial Tribunal-6 passed the order on Tuesday and fixed Oct 12 for recording the depositions of the witnesses. The court also issued warrant against 110 fugitives of the case.
In February last year, police filed the case with Motijheel Police Station after some Jamaat supporters allegedly torched a microbus, obstructed police while they were performing their duties and exploded handmade bombs and cocktails in the area.
