Two cattle smugglers held in Chapainawabganj :

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested two alleged cattle smugglers at Masudpur frontier under Shibganj upazila in Chapainawabganj district yesterday morning. The arrested persons have been identified as Md Mostofa Mia, 46, son of late Asad Ali of Dakatpara village and Md Anarul Islam, 30, son of Md Erfan Ali of Shyampur village both under Shibganj upazila in Chapainawabganj. Additional Director (operation) of 9 BGB battalion Major Minnat Ali said, the aforesaid persons were smugglers and were trying go to India by crossing the border near border pillar no. 4/4-1 S for bringing cattle at around 6-30 am. At this time, a patrol team of Masudpur Border Out Post arrested them and handed them over to the police of Shibganj thana.
Indian wild elephant killed
An Indian wild elephant entered into Bangladesh territory through Masudpur frontier under Shibganj upazila in Chapainawabganj district on Monday morning. It was also shot dead in the afternoon as it became furious and could not be sent back. Commanding Officer (CO) of 9 battalion of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Lieutenant Colonnel Abu Jafar Sheikh Mohammad Bazlul Hoque and chairman of Monakasha union Md Kamal Uddin said, the elephant entered into Bangladesh territory through the aforesaid frontier at around 9 am and started destroying crops. At this panic spread among the dwellers of the area. Being informed members of BGB, police and civil administration along with the local public representatives rushed to the spot and tried to send it back by chasing with sticks and playing bands. But it became furious and tried to enter into the residential areas, the sources added.
Four cocktails recovered
Four cocktails were recovered from a toilet of Nayagola mosque on Friday afternoon. Local sources said, a sweeper saw the cocktails in a pail in the toilet of the mosque in the morning.
Fake Indian notes, gun powder recovered
BGB members recovered 8 lakh rupees fake Indian notes and 3 kg gun powder in two separate drives in Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj district on Friday evening and night. BGB said, acting on secret information, a patrol team of BGB from Masudpur Border Out Post (BOP) raided Gopalpur ghat area in the upazila and recovered the fake Indian currency in an abandoned condition at 5-45 pm. Later, another patrol team from Chowka BOP raided Kaliganj area under the same upazila, 700 yards inside Bangladesh territory from the border pillar no. 177/3-S and recovered 3 kg gun powder in an abandoned condition at 11-15 pm. The recovered Indian fake notes and gun powder were deposited with Shibganj thana.

None was arrested in the two incidents, the sources added.
