In a view exchange programme on Tuesday local elite opined to change site of silo under World Bank financed Project of Food Department by filling largest pond of the city adjacent to mass killing ground of Liberation War.
The programme was arranged at Bangladesh Development Society Auditorium by the officials of ongoing ‘Modern Food Storage Facilities Project’ of Food Department on ‘Trish Godown’ area of the city.
It was presided over by Amzad Hossain, Barisal Regional Food Controller and attended by administrative, project and food department officials, leading local elite.
Abul Kalam Azad, Acting Deputy Commissioner Barisal, Zahangir Alam, coordinator of the project, Kamal Najmus Salehin, specialist of outreach and public awareness, Engineer Harunor Rashid, environment specialist of WB, Sukumar Biswas, divisional director environment directorate, explained about the project.
On behalf of the local elite Nurul Alam Farid, Enayet Hossain Chowdhury, Kajal Ghosh, freedom fighters, Pulak Chatterjee, Saifur Rahman Miron, Sushanta Ghosh, journalists, Syed Dulal, cultural activist, addressed there.
The project and government officials claimed construction of about 3000 square meter silo with capacity for storing 48 thousand food grains, staff quarters and other structures at the cost of Tk.194.5 core.
As initial part of the project constructing side-wall and filling the pond situated on 5.5048 acres of land at ‘Trish Godown’ premises at the cost of more 3.5 core taka, going on, they told.
