Amid much enthusiasms, ten distinguished people of the district were handed over Shilpakala Academy Awards for 2017 and 2018 and two eminent writers were given prizes on Deputy Commissioner’s Manuscripts in a grand function organised by Chandpur Shilpokola Authority at its Auditorium recently with DC and Shilpakala Academy President Majedur Rahman Khan in the chair. Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni was the chief guest on the occasion. The chief guest formally handed over the crests and certificates to the ten distinguished people and two eminent writers of the district. Of them, five distinguished people were selected for Shilpokala Academy Award for 2017 and five others for Shilpokola Academy Award for 2018. Two writers were selected for Deputy Commissioner’s Manuscripts. The recipients of Shilpokola Academy Award-2017 are journalist Kazi Shahadat for literature, Mukhlesur Rahman Mukul,( Folklore culture), Sharif Chowdhury ( drama), Gaurango Saha (music), Govindo Mandal ( Jatra Shilpo ), and Academy Award for 2018 are -, for recitation- PK Roy Chowdhury,(Posthumous), for singing- Champak Saha, for drama artist- Chandan Sarker, for Creative Organiser- Rakhal Chandra Majumder, and for music Babul Krishna Biswas. Poet Iqbal Parvez and Saummo Salek were adjudged as best writers for DC’s Manuscripts. Chandpur Government College Principal Dr ASM Delwar Hussain, Swadhinota Padak winner Dr Syeda Badrunnahar, SP Mahbubur Rahman, District AL President and Secretary Nasiruddin Ahmed and Abu Nayeem Patwary Dulal,and Jiban Kanai Chakrovorty spoke as special guests on the occasion.
Three illegal houses, shops demolished
A mobile court in Matlab Dakhshin Upazila launched an eviction drive and demolished with bulldozer recently one illegal tin roofed house and two semi pucca shops at Bordia Arong Bazar area beside Matlab -Baburhat Road in Matlab Dakhshin Upazila. Executive Magistrate Nusrat Sharmin led the Court and she was assisted by UNO Shahidul Islam, Municipal Land officials and Police force. She said, despite issuing Notice to one local man Billal Hossain Gazi to remove the illegal structures built by him over Government land, he was not showing any honour nor paying any heed to it. Rather he turned a deaf ear to it. So, the Executive Magistrate Nusrat Sharmin added, the administration was bound to demolish the illegal structures on Monday, 30 September. She urged the local people not to build any structure on Government land and failing this, evicted drive will continue as per law.
Two killed , four hurt in road accidents
A youth and an old man were killed in two separate motorbike accidents in Hajiganj and Matlab Uttar Upazila on Sunday afternoon. They both were identified as Faruque Hossain, 32, hailed from Molladohor village under Hajiganj Upazila and Jinnat Ali Prodhan, 65, hailed from Boro Holudia village under Matlab Uttar Upazila. Hajiganj Thana Sub Inspector Rafiqul Islam has said, the incident occurred in front of Dikchail Government Primary School at Borkul area in Hajiganj, Faruque Hossain was sitting behind his friend who was driving the motorbike suddenly had a head -on collision with another morobike coming speedily from opposite direction and it left Faruque grievously and four others of both vehicles slightly injured. Faruque was rushed to the local Health Complex where the on duty doctor declared him dead. The other injured were released after giving first aid. Hajiganj Thana OC Investigation A Rashid said, the body was sent to Chandpur General Hospital morgue on Monday morning for autopsy. In Matlab Uttar, pedestrian Jinnat Ali Prodhan was grievously injured when he was hit suddenly by a speedy motorbike by one Mizanur Rahman at Boro Holudia area. Mizan fled away at once leaving the old man beside the road .
4 get life in Matin murder case
A district court here in a judgment on Sunday afternoon sentenced four accused persons to suffer life term imprisonment and each of them was fined Tk 30 thousand on charge of killing with sharp weapons cloth trader A Matin Prodhan Member at 11.30 pm near one Shafiqul Islam’s home at Ghorairkandi village in Matlab North Upazila on 5 July 2015 due to a past enmity over division of landed property through village darber.
