Sheikh Arif Bulbon :
From the beginning of his career, National Film Award winning actor Chanchal Chowdhury was sincere and dedicated to his all works. He maintained time schedules properly during shooting and other activities related to the shooting. But except some directors’ works, he does not see many characters in the stories of dramas now. He wants to see supporting roles like father, mother, grandfather, grandmother, among others in the story of present time’s dramas, TV serials and movies. He also focuses on story of dramas. Recently he gave a status in this regard on the occasion of noted actress Sharmily Ahmed’s birthday. He wrote with frustration, “We are now parentless family. When I started acting stories of dramas and movies were family oriented. There was also socialization in the stories of these dramas. There were many roles such as paternal grandfather and grandmother, maternal grandfather and grandmother, brother, sister, etc. There was presence of many characters in stories of dramas and movies. There was reflection of the contemporary society and Bengali culture in stories of every drama and movie. Day by day that situation has changed. Now these roles are totally missing in the stories. Basically dramas are being made to focus on only two lead characters. Only love scenes and activities of hero and heroine are seen. All dramas are full of love and romance. In case of Independence Day and International Mother Language Day, there is presence of unexpected affairs and matters which are related to romanticism. These are seen in the story of dramas. If we see Humayun Ahmed’s dramas, we can find nice images of then society and societal bondage and its values. Later, in direction of few directors like Masum Reza and Brindaban Das, we cannot find the roles of parents and grandparents. But now in family dramas, we see deadly scenarios. Roles of paternal and maternal grandfathers are missing. If mother is presented then father is either dead or lost. Same thing also happened in case of father’s role. Roles of siblings are not present significantly.”
Chanchal also said that low budget and footage collections in the name of making dramas have created this situation. “Many senior actors have already deceased with frustration, while some others remain workless now. As a result, fields of our film and TV have become without guardianship. I want back to see these roles in stories of dramas and movies,” he added.
