Gono Forum President Dr Kamal Hossain on Wednesday said, in the future there will come a big challenge. To face this challenge, we need greater unity.
We are trying to forge the national unity in the interest of pure democracy and to free the country from injustice.
“Those who have gathered here want to forge a national unity so that we can establish pure democracy,” Dr Kamal said.
He told these while speaking at a discussion titled ‘EVM Boycot, National Election and Political Alliance’ arranged by Nagorik Oikya at the Jatiya Press Club. Kamal said, time demands unity of the people to build a democratic Bangladesh and to eject dictatorship. A reformed Election Commission for free and fair elections cannot be ignored. People are the owners of the country.
We believe in multi-party democracy, and not one-party rule. The people of the country cherish free and fair election. There is no scope to ignore the demands of the people, he added.
Dr Kamal urged the people of the country to get united in the interest of the nation. “I urge you all those who believe in democracy and the spirit of non-communalism to get united in the interest of the country and its people.”
Dr Kamal said, “We’ll get united against injustice. It is the history of the Bangalee not to bow down to injustice. We must free ourselves from injustice.”
It was attended among others by BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Nagorik Oikya Convener Mahmudur Rahman Manna, JSD President ASM Rab and Kalyan Party President Major General (Retd) Syed Mohammad Ibrahim (Bir Protik).
