Certificate distribution for urban community volunteers program held

A dissemination ceremony of Urban Community Volunteer guideline 2019 and certificate distribution for urban community volunteers program were arranged at Ali Ahmed Chunka Auditorium of Narayanganj on Thursday. Afsana Afroz Biva, Panel Mayor-1, Narayanganj City Corporation, was the chief guest while Urban Planner of Narayanganj City Corporation MD. Mainul Islam, Deputy Country Director of Save the Children Bandana Risal, Joint Secretary Md. Harun-or-Rashid Mollah, and Assistant Director of Fire Service and Civil Defense, Dhaka Division Md. Saleh Uddin were present as special guests in the said program.
In the welcome speech of the event, the Deputy Director of Save the Children Matiul Ahsan said that they had not any guideline for the urban community volunteers. In 2019, Save the children supported MODMR to develop a guideline for the urban community volunteer with the help of Department of Disaster Management where the roles, responsibility, management and other things were clearly defined. Beside these, the guideline also proposed for ADB funding for the volunteers. I hope this guideline will help for a proper management of the volunteers.
Planner Md. Mainul Islam said, Narayanganj City Corporation and Save the Children are working closely from 2015. Within this period, we are able to prepare 300 urban community volunteers with the help of Save the children. We have a plan to prepare 100 volunteers foe each ward with a total 2700 for the entire city corporation area.
Deputy Country Director of Save the Children Bandana Risal said, Save the children is implementing various development activities in many countries of the world.
Afsana Afroz Biva, Panal Mayor-1, Narayanganj City Corporation said, I want to thank Save the Children and Community Participation and Development (CPD) to prepare Urban Community volunteers after imparting practical and theoretical training to them. A new building of city corporation is under construction.
Asit Barun Biswas, Ward councilor, Ward-15, Shafi Uddin Prodhan, Ward councilor, Ward-10, Minoara Begum. Ward councilor, Reserved Ward-10, 11, 12 were also present in the event.
With an aim to reduce urban disaster risk of Narayanganj City Corporation, Narayanganj City Corporation, Save the Children and Community Participation and Development (CPD) have been working jointly for many years. In continuity of these activities, according to the direction of the government total 300 urban community volunteers have been built by Community Participation and Development (CPD) with the technical support of Save the Children and funding support from European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (ECHO). Beside these, Save the Children also support MoDMR to develop an Urban Community Volunteer guideline 2019 with the help of The Department of Disaster Management of Bangladesh where the roles, responsibility and other activities of Urban Community volunteers are clearly defined.
