Chittagong Bureau :
Workers of a foreign-owned ready-made garments factory vandalized the factory at Chittagong EPZ (CEPZ) on Sunday morning demanding wage hike and summer allowances.
Nearly 2000 workers of ‘Denim Jeans Limited’, owned by Hong Kong investors, gathered in the factory at the Sector-7 of the CEPZ in the morning and became agitating at about 11am.
At one stage, they vandalized the factory, said Industrial Police inspector Ariful Rahman.
On information, police rushed to the spot and took control of the situation,” he said.
Workers claimed they were supposed to get a 10 percent hike in their gross
wages. But, the factory authority, they alleged, gave them a 10 percent increment of their basic wages.
Moreover, the workers did not get summer allowances, they alleged further.
Inspector Rahman said workers’ leaders were holding talks with the factory management to find out the solution.
