Centre to monitor air quality at DU

A modern Air Quality Research and Monitoring Centre (AQRMC) has been established at the centre for Advanced Research in Sciences (CARS) of Dhaka University.
The inaugural ceremony was held on Wednesday at the Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban of the university. It was followed by an international seminar titled Air Quality and Its Consequences: Global Perspective in the same venue.
State Minister and Chairman of University Grants Commission (UGC) Prof Dr AK Azad Chowdhury formally inaugurated the centre as chief guest while Senior Operations Officer of World Bank, Prof Dr Thorsten Benter of Wuppertal University, Germany, Dr Ferdinand von Weyhe, Charge D Affairs of Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany, Dhaka was present and Prof Dr M. Muhibur Rahman, former member of UGC addressed the function as special guests.
The AQRMC has been set up with the support from Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project (HEQEP) of the UGC of Bangladesh funded by World Bank and Bangladesh Government under the sub-project, “Establishing an Air Quality Monitoring Centre (CP-2196)”, in collaboration with Wuppertal University, Germany.
Pro-Vice chancellor (Administration) of Dhaka University and Sub-Project Manager (CP-2196) Prof Dr Shahid Akhtar Hossain gave in brief the history of establishing Air Quality Research and Monitoring Centre (AQRMC) and its functions.
