Staff Reporter :
Cell phone users have been experiencing huge call drops since Eid-ul-Azha at different places of the country despite concerned ministry’s directives to all mobile phone operators to improve their service quality.
During the Eid-ul-Azha vacation, it was found that network quality of most of the telecom operators, including state-run Teletalk was below
standards as people failed to communicate with their near and dear ones due to severe call drops.
“I had a bitter experience during Eid-ul-Azha vacation as I failed to contact my relative, who lives in Bogra over GameenPhone from capital Dhaka due to call drop,” alleged Sohel Ahmed, a resident of Lalmatia in the city.
Simran Hossain, a university admission seeker, said that she is now staying capital Dhaka for better preparation but she can not talk to her parents not more than one minute over cell phone due to sever call drops.
Earlier, the telecom division, telecom regulator and mobile phone operators decided to provide mobile phone subscribers with a free minute for each call drop as compensation if they experience the disruption more than once a day.
Besides, State Minister for Posts and Telecommunications Tarana Halim also conducted several meetings with the operators on reducing call drops and improving service quality.
She also directed all mobile phone operators to improve their service quality, or they would have to compensate their customers.
In January, Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission made compensation for call drops mandatory.
However, operators ignored the issue and sent letters to the BTRC, asking for more discussion on call drops.
