The German University Bangladesh (GUB) celebrated the 49th Independence and National Day of Bangladesh with festivity and enthusiasm on Tuesday.
A series of programmes were arranged on the occasion that included hoisting of the national flag, placing of wreaths at Joydebpur Shaheed Minar to pay homage to the Liberation War martyrs. In addition to that a discussion session on liberation war was organised by the university cultural club at GUB auditorium where all the teachers, students, officers and employees were present and the event was presided by Prof Dr Md. Shams-Ud-Din, Vice-chancellor, GUB.
SUST
Marking the 49th Independence Day of Bangladesh, a day- long photography exhibition held at Shahjalal University of Science & Technology (SUST) on Tuesday.
Vice-Chancellor of SUST, Prof Farid Uddin Ahmed inaugurated the exhibition titled ‘Story of Independence in Newspapers’ at the campus. Apart from this, the book ‘Unfinished Memories’ of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was distributed among school students.
Shahjalal University Press Club (SUPC) organized the event to show the role of the media in the war of liberation and the news of the media during liberation war. A total of 58 photographs shot and paper cutting during the Liberation War were displayed at the exhibition.
Club President Ziaul Islam Presided over the program while General Secretary Juned Ahmed was the presenter.
Speaking on the occasion, Vice-Chancellor Prof Farid Uddin Ahmed said this is an extraordinary initiative. If the students read the autobiography of Bangabandhu, they will know about Bangabandhu. To know about the sacrifice of Bangabandhu in independence. On the other hand, the photographs bear testimony to the authentic history of the country’s Liberation War and these priceless photographs should be preserved for posterity, concluded Prof Uddin.

Jagannath University (JnU) teachers, students and employees celebrated the Independence and National Day with due respect and befitting manner on Tuesday.
Marking the day, the national flag was hoisted atop all administrative buildings and other establishments on the campus at 6 in the morning. Academic, Administrative buildings andObakashBhovon were illuminated with colourful lights on the occasion.
Vice-chancellor of the university Prof Mizanur Rahman paid tributes to the martyrs of the War of Liberation by placing wreaths at the national monument at Savar Tuesday morning.
JnU Treasurer Prof Md Selim Bhuyan, Proctor Prof Nur Muhammad, among others, accompanied the VC during wreath placing at the memorial.
BUBT
Bangladesh University of Business and Technology (BUBT) observed the 49th Independence Day and National Day with a discussion in its Hall room of permanent campus, Rupnagar, Mirpur-2 in the city on Tuesday. The university also honored media personality and the Freedom Fighter Syed Hasan Imam with a Gold Medal for his contribution to the Liberation War of Bangladesh in 1971 on the occasion.
After receiving the Gold Medal from Vice Chancellor of BUBT Prof Md. Abu Saleh, Syed Hasan Imam addressed the students of BUBT as the chief guest of the discussion. He recalled the role of the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in our Liberation War and said that, the spirit of the War was Building a nation in peace and equality. Our great fighters fought for a poverty free Bangladesh in 1971. But we see today, some rich people are grasping all the money of the country. They want to have more wealth and never stop. This is the example of the disparity and our fighters did not fight to see this state. We should uphold the spirit of the War of Liberation and we need to prevent the business in education and injustice in property distribution.
AFM Sarwar Kamal, Former Chairman of BUBT Trust spoke as special guest. Prof Md. Abu Saleh, Vice Chancellor, BUBT described the history of the Independence when he spoke as the Chair of the session. Prof Mian Lutfar Rahman, Advisor, Students’ Affairs, delivered the welcome speech. Prof Syed Anwarul Huq, Dean, Faculty of Arts and Humanities presented the role of the Media and Journalists in the War in 1971. Members of the BUBT Trust, Treasurer, Deans of all Faculties, Registrar, Directors including the Director of IQAC-BUBT, Controller of Exams, Proctor, Joint Registrar, Chairmen of different departments, teachers, officials and the students were present in the program.
BUP
Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) celebrated the Independence and National Day with various day-long programmes on Tuesday at its campus. The day-long programme included special prayers for the martyrs, seeking peace, prosperity, progress for the nation, two documentaries namely ‘Amara Tomader Vulbona and Shadhinota Amar Shadhinota’ were displayed. Besides, a colorful cultural programme was organized by BUP Cultural Club held at Bijoy Auditorium where BUP Vice Chancellor Major General Md Emdad-Ul-Bari, ndc, psc, te was present as chief guest.
Among others, BUP high officials, teachers and students were also present in the programme.
