The newly appointed Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda has vowed to perform his duty impartially and said he would not bow to pressure from any quarter while discharging his constitutional responsibilities
“I will perform my duty showing utmost neutrality and sincerity. I will also remain respectful to the rule of law to ensure transparency in my activities,” he told media while giving his reaction after being appointed as the CEC.
The new CEC also said that he will work hard to gain trust of all political parities, including opposition BNP, in order to ensure free and fair polls in the country. I hope BNP will take part in the next parliamentary election.
“It’s a big challenge for me, but I have to prove myself with due courage and withstanding pressure from any quarter,” he said, adding, “The newly-constituted Election Commission (EC) led by him will not capitulate before pressure from any quarter, party and person.”
In this regard, Huda implored the nation to give them time to prove themselves.
He urged everyone to join hands with them to see that the EC performs up to their aspirations and expectations.
President Abdul Hamid appointed Huda as new CEC on Monday night in line with a constitutional provision.
