Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda on Wednesday rejected Transparency International Bangladesh’s (TIB) report on the 11th parliamentary election.
” We are rejecting it outright. It’s not an authentic report,” he told reporters after a programme at Election Training Institute in the city’s Agargaon area.
The commission did not receive any such allegation from the media on the voting day, the CEC said, when his attention was drawn to the TIB report published on Tuesday.
TIB in a report published on Tuesday said various electoral irregularities took place in 47 out of 50 constituencies in the 11th parliamentary polls.
CEC Huda said, there is no similarity of the TIB report with the reports published in newspaper and accounts of other observers during the election day.
“We did not get any report of irregularity from the information provided by election enquiring committee, executive magistrates and election commission officials,” Nurul Huda said.
The CEC also slammed the speech of an official of TIB that the Election Commission failed to act neutrally and the role of some polling officers and law enforcement agencies were biased.
“The speech is unsatisfactory. He (TIB official) should not say this,” Nurul Huda said.
About the criticism of the EC’s role by TIB, the CEC said, “These are indecorous and inappropriate. It shouldn’t have said these.”
He, however, said the commission will not take any step against such remarks.
Claiming that no such election irregularity took place, he said that the EC gleaned information from media, its own officials, electoral inquiry committees and magistrates.
The CEC said there is no authenticity of the allegations brought by TIB.
