CDA demolition drive continues

Chattogram Development Authority (CDA) has launched a drive to demolish illegal construction of Jamalkhan canal at Kotwali police station in the city.
 The evacuation was carried out with the help of the army on Tuesday at 10 am. It was continued until 5 pm.
 Ahmed Moinuddin, Executive Engineer and Project Director of the CDA told that, about 100 illegal structures were being demolished on the canal.
There are also a number of renowned and expensive towers and restaurants that are illegal and will be demolished. The CDA signed an agreement with Bangladesh Army on April 9, 2018 to implement the mega project to reduce the waterlogging of Chattogram.
 The army’s engineering core then began to raise the retaining wall, road construction and lower bridges on both sides of the canals in different areas of the city.
Along with the demolition, dirt cleaning activities were also started. According to the DPP, the cost of this mega project was estimated at Tk 5,616.50 crore.
 The project, set for a three-year period, aims to construct a 300 km new drain, including removing the canal soil of 36 canals at the initial stage. In addition, the project is expected to construct a new 100 km drain, to dig 36 canals in the city by 2020, to construct 176 km of resistive walls beside the canal, 85 km road, 42 different silt traps and also various infrastructures.
Cent percent electrification: Chattogram City Corporation will implement cent percent electrification programs in 41 city wards of the city.
About 0,600 LED lights will be installed in these wards. CCC sources said 410kilometers roads within the city will come under this electrification programs i.e. 10 kilometers in each wards.
The project will start from July this year with targets of completion by December 2020. Planning Department of Govt has consented budget for Tk.61 crores for this project on Thursday of which India will assist Tk.215 crores and GOB Tk.47 crores.
In this connection, a MOU in between Durable & Renewable Energy Development Authority and Energy Efficiency Services Ltd of India signed in 2017.
