CDA demolishes 15 illegal structures in Chattogram

Chattogram Development Authority (CDA) on Thursday demolished 15 illegal establishments erected on both banks of the city’s Noahkhal canal.
The demolition drive, led by CDA special magistrate Saiful Islam in cooperation with Engineering Corps of Bangladesh Army who were engaged in a mega project there aiming to mitigate city’s water logging problem, started around 11 am to demolish the illegal establishments from the banks of Noahkhal canal under Bakalia thana.
Ahmed Mainuddin, executive engineer of CDA, told that a section of people had occupied the land on the banks of the canals by setting up illegal establishments. Among them, 26 structures were knocked down on the first day of CDA drives and 15 on second day aimed at reclaiming 13 canals of the port city, he added.
Representatives of different stakeholders including Chattogram Port Authority, Power Development Board, Chattogram City Corporation, Chattogram WASA, Directorate of Chattogram Environment Department and Metropolitan Police participated, among others.
Earlier, CDA signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in 2018 titled “Re-excavation of canals, expansion, renovation and development” with Engineering Corps of Bangladesh Army to implement a mega project at a cost of Taka 5,616 crore, said Lieutenant Colonel Shah Ali, Project Director of CDA mega project.
