Staff Reporter :Three killers of Italian national Cesare Tavella were identified and they were almost under surveillance of law enforcing agencies. The murderers would be brought before the public anytime, police sources said.Mahbub Alam, Deputy Commissioner of Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) and Head of the probe committee, told the media on Wednesday that they had identified the killers after analyzing close- circuit television (CCTV) camera’ images installed in the area.”Police are looking for the three suspected killers of Tavella. They got the photographs of three youths, but couldn’t get details of their identity,” the DB official said. Although an investigating agency has leaked security camera images of the suspected killers to the media, it declined to make any official comment about the images. In one image, a man is seen walking on a street wearing a striped blue T-shirt, jeans and slippers. He is seen using a mobile telephone. In another image taken by the same camera, a motorcyclist is seen wearing a light coloured shirt while another person is seen sitting on the motorbike behind the driver wearing darker colours. The suspects’ faces are unclear in the images.Earlier, witnesses told investigators that they had seen three persons involved in the shooting. Two had approached Tavella while a third man waited on a motorbike, they said. The investigators have denied that they have made any arrests in the Tavella murder case. But a source at one investigating agency claimed that the suspected killers were already in custody. The same source confirmed that eight to ten people had been detained by investigators, including Bhangari Sohel, 35, Tamjid Ahmed alias Rubel, 35, Rasel Chowdhury, 27, and one Rubel, 32. Rubel was taken into custody for allegedly issuing the IS claim tweet.According to the police, although the three killers fled on a motorbike after killing Cesare Tavella, one of them got down after going some distance to avoid being frisked by police at check posts. The killers were caught in on a CCTV camera of a nearby building while they were fleeing the scene in Gulshan. The CCTV footage showed two youths coming from the murder spot on a motorbike and another one was walking down the street, talking on a cell phone. The headlight of the motorbike blurred the image of the two riders in the CCTV footage. But the image of the young man walking down on the road was relatively clear.Detective officers said that they had scrutinised the footage of all of 155 CCTVs of 13 streets in the area, comparing them with the footage of the CCTV of the building adjacent to the murder spot.DB Joint Commissioner Monirul Islam said that the investigation is proceeding centering the three youths who took part in the killing directly.”The first task is to arrest these three youths. The drive is on to arrest them and recover the bike and the firearms,” he said.On September 28, Tavella was fatally shot on the footpath just outside the boundary wall of the Bangladesh Bank governor’s residence on Road No. 90 in the capital’s Gulshan. He was shot by a single shooter, according to the ballistics report.
