CCCI President exchanges views with local MP

President of Chittagong Chamber of Commerce & Industry and Vice President of FBCCI Mahbubul Alam exchanged views with the lawmaker of Chittagong constituency-9 and Secretary General of Jatiya Party Ziauddin Ahmed Bablu at Chamber office recently.
Specifically they discussed the waterlogging problems of the Chaktai-Khatungonj business hub . Chamber President said being a traditional trade centre of the country , it is going to be ruined with problems of water logging and the tidal water inundating the whole area during this season. They opined for permanent solutions of the problems that are facing the by traders of the area.
 During the exchanging views, General secretary of Khatungonj Trade and Industries Association was also present. Ziauddin Bablu said Chaktai-Khatungonj is the largest wholesale market of the essential commodities and following the rainfall accompanied with high tide in sea and pouring of Kaptai lake water, the entire area with adjacent areas were inundated with waist deep water and most of the food and essential commodities godowns went under water. The traders in the area incurred huge losses of millions of taka.
In the meantime, chamber president sent a urgent d.o. letter to the Water Resources Minister for a permanent solutions of the sorrow of Khatungonj and Chaktai.
 The minister informed the chamber president about the engagement of a Chinese company for finding out a permanent solutions of the waterlogging.
Besides, govt is mulling to construct sluice gates on estuary of Rajakhali khal and Chaktai Khal , embankment around river beds and installations of necessary water discharging pumps beside sluice gate .
 Chamber president also asked the legislator to convene a meeting with Chamber and City Corporation Mayor immediately, a CCCI sources said.
