President of Chittagong Chamber of Commerce & Industry Mahbubul Alam Talukder called upon the Finance Minister Abul Mal Abdul Muhid MP and the Chairman of National Board of Revenue Golam Hossain to extend the time for submission of income tax return upto November 30 next.
He sent a urgent letter to them on Tuesday on behalf of the business community of the port city. The urgent message was told that there is no alterntive of increasing the numbers of tax payees aimed at strengthening the economy and activeness of the NBR. Govt collects national revenue through income tax, VAT and import duties and numbers of tax payees need to be increased gradually under new tax policy, he added.
The letter was told that due to recent Eid festivals of Muslim, pujas of Hindu, Buddha communities , huge numbers of tax payers could not submit tax return in due time. As like as previous years, he urged upon the Finance minister, NBR to extend time limit upto November 30 next with a view to encourage the payees to participate in the economic development and progress of the country, sources said.
