Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) will launch a 25-days long special crash programmes from today (Tuesday) aimed at mitigating immense sufferings of water logging and mosquito menance to free the city dwellers from these sufferings . Conservancy Department of the city corporation will implement this crash program on priority basis at an estimated cost of Tk.9 crores .
Out of the crash programs, silted earth and accumulated garbage in the drains and canals will be lifted in all 41 city wards . And at the same time to damage the dens of mosquito in drains, culverts , a mosquito killing insecticide ( Serviside) will be sprayed , sources said. Conservancy department sources said this crash program will continue up to May 5 last.
Sources further added that on every day , the assigned works of the crash program will be conducted in 5 wards simultaneously where 500 conservancy workers will participate the crash program i.e 100 workers in each ward. CCC sources said the on duty 500 conservancy workers including 266 temporary workers in 41 city wards have been withdrawn yesterday through a official circular .
While contacted the Chief Conservancy officer of CCC Md. Shafiqul Mannan siddiqui told the BSS that the conservancy workers in 41 wards have been withdrawn aimed at undergoing special crash program at a time in 5 wards daily. In a circular of the corporation, all conservancy workers with uniforms and related conservancy equipments have been asked to report to the Crash programme Assigned Supervisor ( Conservancy Officer) Sheikh Hasan Reza by 7 am on April 10 next.
Sources said Executive Engineer(Mechanical) of CCC Mr. Sudip Basak will arrange necessary transports for carrying the lifted earth, garbage immediately from the site.
While contacted the City Mayor AJM Nasir Uddin told The New Nation that the rainy season is very near and before the monsoon rain we want to clean up all drains and culverts, canals within the city so as to facilitate easy flow of rain water and secondly the garbage filled drains, khals etc create safer mosquito breeding centre . As such , keeping in mind these reasons, CCC has undertaken a short time special crash programme for the better interests of the city dwellers. He further said CCC will launch similar crash programmes in all sectors of the corporation to turn the city into a clean and healthy city.
Mentionable that CCC launched programs of kanal digging in 57 canals of the city from January 7 last, but after Govt order on Marh 5 last over Chittagong Mega Project , Chittagong Development Authority has been entrusted with that works of canal digging and hence CCC suspended the canal digging programs of 57 canals, sources said.
